Mixed fortunes for Kilcullen CC at Stormont

Stormont was resplendent yesterday with Edward Carson overlooking proceedings on a beautiful day with a lovely course and great racing, writes Liam Walker.

First off was John Walker who performed better than in last weeks Championships. He finished at about the three-quarter mark on the muddy course, which was technical, hilly and finished on the main road leading to the historic castle.

In the A race we had two riders, Kenny Buck and JB Murphy (pictured). Before racing got underway, Kenny damaged one of his bikes when he bent his rear gear hanger which left his gears off calibration. Starting on his spare bike things didn’t get better when his brakes seized and we saw Kenny retire.
JB started well and was in fourth place when some course marking tape got entangled with his rear gears and he had to run about a third of a lap to get his spare bike from the pits. He resumed racing and finished tenth overall and winning the Junior race.

This race brought the Cyclocross season to an end as Cycling Ireland have decided not to send a team to the World Championships.

So next week will see us back on the road preparing for the new season. Is anybody interested in a spin next Sunday at 10am.
