Anne says 'thanks' for century calls and cards

Following the publication of an article recently about her 100th birthday celebrations, Anne Downey has expressed her thanks to all the Kilcullen people who remembered her and who phoned, sent her cards, and well wishes, writes Brian Byrne.

Her son Tony, who sent in the original article, says she was delighted with all the contacts.

One card she got was from the Barkers in Sunnykill, near where the Downeys lived in Knockbounce, and one of the Barker girls accompanied Tony to school when he was six or so, at his Mum's request.

"Kilcullen was like one big family in those days 65 years ago," he recalls.
